2015년 8월, 그는 재외동포 체류자격으로 비자 발급을 신청했으나 LA 총영사관에서 거부당했습니다. 같은 해 10월, 비자 발급 거부 처분 취소 소송을 제기했고, 현재까지 세 차례에 걸쳐 대한민국 정부를 상대로 행정소송을 진행 중입니다.

Steve Yoo Denies Involvement in Controversial Statement – “I Never Asked for a Pardon”
Korean-American singer Steve Yoo (Yoo Seung-jun) has expressed strong displeasure over a recently released public statement, clarifying that he has nothing to do with it.
On August 13, Yoo addressed the matter via his personal social media, referring to a statement posted on the DC Inside Yoo Seung-jun gallery. He stated, “I have never asked for a pardon, and I don’t even know the source of this statement,” showing clear frustration. He further questioned, “Do I have to suffer discomfort because of a statement submitted by someone I don’t even know?”
Yoo also emphasized, “I have no intention whatsoever of making money in Korea. My wish to enter Korea has always been for the sake of restoring my honor.” He expressed regret over being associated with political figures mentioned in the statement, such as Cho Kuk, former leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, and Yoon Mi-hyang, former lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, “It is very unfortunate to be tied to such political issues.”
In 2002, Yoo left South Korea shortly after receiving his draft notice, citing an overseas concert. He later obtained U.S. citizenship, sparking a major controversy over alleged draft evasion. As a result, he was banned from entering Korea under Article 11 of the Immigration Control Act.
In August 2015, he applied for a visa under the Overseas Korean status but was denied by the Korean Consulate General in Los Angeles. That October, he filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the visa refusal. To date, he has pursued three administrative lawsuits against the South Korean government.
Yoo’s latest remarks seem aimed at distancing himself from unwanted political controversy and focusing on clearing his name. The outcome of his legal battle and the possibility of his return to Korea remain to be seen.
